Here's my quick notes from this past weekend's State 7s Tourney featuring our seven Division One Austin-area programs.  Includes my team MVP picks plus what's upcoming for them in regular season.  


ANDERSON TROJANS (2-1) POOL PLAY, advanced to Champ Bracket (fell in fisrt round)

MVP: Cole Canaday (’23) played DB and WR

BEST WR: Brady Gephart (’24), also back up QB

NEXT UP: vs McCallum (Aug 25), Taco Shack Bowl, House Park


BUDA JOHNSON JAGUARS (3-0) POOL PLAY, advanced Champ bracket (fell in 3rd round)

MVP: QB Jesse Median (’23)

BEST WR: Carson McMullin ('24), also back up QB

NEXT UP: vs S.A. Clark (Aug 26), Bob Shelton Stadium


DRIPPING SPRINGS TIGERS (2-1) POOL play, advanced Champ bracket (fell 1st round)

MVP: QB Austin Novosad (’23), offered via Texas A&M after tourney

BEST WR: Maddox Bloomgren (’24), also basketball player

NEXT UP: @ Vandegrift (Aug 26), Monroe Stadium


LBJ JAGUARS (1-2), Consol bracket (fell 2nd round)

MVP: QB Ali Scott (’25)
BEST WR: Sedrick Alexander (’23), their starting RB, Vanderbilt commit

NEXT UP: @ Manor, Aug 26, Mustangs Athletic Complex


LAKE TRAVIS CAVALIERS (1-2), Consol bracket (fell in Semifinal)

MVP: QB Bo Edmundson (’23), Michigan State commit

Best WR: Kadyn Leon (’24), back up QB1 as well, UNLV offer, never played Varsity

NEXT UP: vs Arlington Martin (August 26)


WESTLAKE CHAPS (1-2), Consol bracket, fell 1st round

MVP: Jaden Greathouse (’23), final 4 are Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, South Carolina

BEST WR: Hunter Luke (’23)

NEXT UP: vs Ridge Point (Aug 26), Chaps Stadium, going for UIL 6A Four-peat


WESTWOOD WARRIORS (2-1), Consol Bracket (Fell Round 3)

MVP: WR Grant Jaeger (’23), All District 25-6A returning 

BEST WR: Lane Wood (’24), also baseball player

NEXT UP: @ Georgetown East View (Aug 26), Birkelbach Stadium
