Each week we will identify five Austin Area Texas High School Football match ups and our FLX Fam will pick who they think will win. Here is Week two of our FLX 5 Texas High School Football Picks.
CAMERON PARKER (2-3)
Cedar Ridge @ Bowie- Cedar Ridge
The Raiders dispatched former state champion, Cedar Park, last week and will take care of Bowie at home.
Rouse @ Anderson- Anderson
In the battle of All FLX ATX Watchlist QB's, Fred Dale will be too much for a Rouse defense that struggled in the home opener.
Vista Ridge @ Georgetown- Georgetown
Andrew Petter and Draden Dickmann will prove to be too much to handle for the Vista Ridge defense.
Liberty Hill @ Hutto- Liberty Hill
Hutto is a popular underdog pick but I'm not believing the hype just yet.
Leander @ Bastrop- Leander
This is the toughest pick to make but I'll buy in on Leander for now. Had a lot of tough losses last year but the win over Pflugerville showed these boys are ready to make a jump.
DEREK COHEN (2-3)
Cedar Ridge @ Bowie- Bowie
Rouse @ Anderson- Anderson
Vista Ridge @ Georgetown- Georgetown
Liberty Hill @ Hutto- Liberty Hill
Leander @ Bastrop- Bastrop
Cedar Ridge and Bowie is a tossup but until I see inconsistency’s from Barnes and Kenyon ill take the dawgs all day. Anderson should be more physical than rouse, if they can hold their high powered offense and not make this a shootout, Anderson will win. Georgetown has looked like the best 5A DI school in the area they should take care of Vista Ridge. Hutto looked dominant last week but I don’t think they can handle the Panthers just yet. Leander and Bastrop will be a coin flip, but I want to see the bears and their talent start to connect so I will be rooting for Bastrop come Friday night.
NOLAN HOGAN (2-3)
Cedar Ridge @ Bowie- Bowie
Rouse @ Anderson- Anderson
Vista Ridge @ Georgetown- Georgetown
Liberty Hill @ Hutto- Hutto
Leander @ Bastrop- Leander
Week one’s matchups were everything we expected. I’m excited to see how week two pans out. I’m gonna ride with the Bowie Dawg pack again over Cedar Ridge, but I see a close game between these teams. I’m loving what the Trojans have going on over at Anderson. The physicality that Fred Dale that Anderson offense brings to the table is gonna be a tough test for Rouse after a tough loss to Lake Belton in week 1. Georgetown should take care of business against Vista Ridge, but don’t sleep on Jackson Harrell’s Rangers. Hutto and Liberty Hill is a great matchup for both teams. Hutto has a lot of speed on both sides of the ball, and I believe that gives them the edge if they can keep that Panthers run game in front of them.
SNUPE DANIEL (3-2)
Cedar Ridge @ Bowie- Bowie
The last time these two teams met were in back to back playoffs (2014, 2015). Bulldogs taking '14 (45-14), Raiders revenge '15 (47-17). Its also possible this is a preview of bi-district playoffs in November. Both coming off double digit victories, I'll defer to the home team. Bowie -1
Rouse @ Anderson- Anderson
This game was an absolute shootout, 57-54 Rouse dub in Week Two of '21. A game that was replaced due to COVID restrictions in '20. This low key one of the most exciting games of the year. I feel the Trojans even the series. Anderson -3.
Vista Ridge @ Georgetown- Georgetown
Based on last week's results, it feels like the Eagles should be favorites. Beware this young VR collective, who may be 1 big game away from the light clicking on - the talent is there. Georgetown has ascended to FLX's Top 5A DI spot. I foresee the Eagles continuing to roll. Georgetown -9.5
Liberty Hill @ Hutto- Hutto
Holy moly. 2 high powered offenses that do it entirely differently. Will the new UIL rules pertaining to chop blocks slow down the Panthers Slot T? Can Schrank/Burrell/Hollen slow down gun slinger Will Hammond? I dont know who's going to win, but anxious to see who does. Panthers coming off win vs vs Wagner, Hippos off 46 point outpour vs San Marcos. I forsee a point total over 70, advantage home team, Hutto -1.
Leander @ Bastrop-Bastrop
The Bears were on opposite end of a Week One upset (shootout loss to Lehman, 40-34). A bounce back won't easy against a completely revitalized Lions team that outlasted Pflugerville (21-7) in opener. I feel this is another high scoring affair early, that ends stingy. Bastrop -2.
ZACH LUCERO (2-3)
Cedar Ridge @ Bowie- Bowie
Rouse @ Anderson- Anderson
Vista Ridge @ Georgetown- Georgetown
Liberty Hill @ Hutto- Hutto
Leander @ Bastrop- Bastrop
I feel like I could be picking the underdog in all of these match ups but I really believe that each of these games are a coin-flip. Tons of offense and great quarterbacks on display. Huge quarterback match up of two all FLX guys in Anderson’s Dale and Rouse’s Shorb. That should be a high flying fun offensive game. Liberty Hill Hutto is a curious one. Tradition says Liberty hill but the size of the school says Hutto. Both schools had big wins with Liberty hill being a little more tested
