FLX ATX: Former Round Rock Dragon Heads To NFL Vikings

It feels like yesterday.  December 3, 2016.  Coach Jeff Cheatham and Round Rock Football were marching into the State 6A Quarterfinals vs. The Woodlands.  Led by senior defensive lineman James Lynch, the Dragons would fall to Baylor Stadium that afternoon.

Fast forward nearly four years later, and Lynch is an NFL Draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings!  After setting the career sack mark (22 sacks) for the Bears and earning Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2019, its been quite a ride for ‘Big Red’.

We remember his senior season fondly.  Scoring his first Varsity touchdown in the season opener vs. Clemens.  He registered 8 sacks, 19 hurries and 46 tackles en route to a unanimous First Team All District selection.  Check out some of his big plays below!

As you can see above, James swallowed whole much of his competition (size wise) when on the high school level.  He was always a beast.  Below, he tosses off some block attempts to make the play at line of scrimmage!

Did you see James play at Round Rock High or at Baylor in person?  Do you feel he’ll have success after leaving college early to join the NFL ranks?  Chime in with your comments and opinions below!  And congrats to James (or Blake…is he going by that now??) and the entire Lynch Family.
